On fence post by public footpath next to wood running north from Battle House .1 1/2 miles N.E. of Goring.
On a fence post by the footpath running north from Battle road between fields and a wooded hill. Many of the old oak fence posts still stand, interestingly weathered, but many have been replaced by more recent tannalised pine poles so there is only the slimmest chance of finding the one I used in 1971. The footpath is on the wooded side of a barbed wire, keeping walkers off the grass. In places Sloe, hawthorne and old mans beard have established themselves in the fence so that there patches that could be the beginnings of an unplanted hedge.
The view to the south west is of big open grass fields which are used for grazing horses. Beyond that are the line of detached houses that line the road. Not much new development is evident except the upgrade of addition of modern conservatories.
To the east and north is Wroxhill Wood which at point 63 is rather tangled and thorny with Old Mans Beard. The Path, once just a local amenity has now been named as ‘The Chiltern Way Extension’.
